Miami Township Police Chief R. Steven Bailey is the recipient of the Egon Bittner Award, presented by the Commission for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The award was presented at the 95th CALEA Conference,on Saturday July 30, 2011.
The Egon Bittner Award is presented to Chief Executive Officers who havecommanded a CALEA Accredited agency for fifteen or more continuous years. Itwas created to recognize these leaders for their significant contributions tothe public safety profession and to CALEA.
Chief Bailey has led the Miami Township Police Department since May 1995. The police department was first accredited in March 1996 and has beenreaccredited in 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2010. ___________________________________________________________________________
The Columbus Division of Police, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Police Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were all re-accredited and received the "Award with Excellence" at the July 2011 CALEA Conference in Cincinnati.
The following agencies received CALEA's "Meritorious Award" at the July 2011 Conference for achieving and maintaining CALEA Accreditation for 15 or more continuous years: Licking County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Shaker Heights Police Department.
CALEA no longer sends reminder notices out when your annual report information is due. Ensure you have a follow-up in place to provide this information to CALEA on your agencies anniversary date (Anniversary date = date of last award). Provide for years one and two. Example: If you were awarded Accreditation in July 2008, your anniversary date(s) would be July 2009 (1st report) and July 2010 (2nd report). ______________________________________________________________________________

Southern Police Institute - 10 week Command Officers Development Course: The CODC has continuously evolved with changing social, economic, and political environments associated with local, state, and federal units of government. This training provides a comprehensive overview of management practices. The Command Officers Development Course is offered in five (5) two-week segments over a five-month period.
